When You Can't Tell What's Going On With Your Teen
Therapy that meets your adolescent where they actually are.
Therapy for teens in Livingston and Westfield, NJ.

The Door Closes a Little Earlier Each Week
Dinner used to be the easiest part of the day.
Now there’s a phone, a pair of headphones, and answers that come in three words or fewer.
Your teenager looks fine. The grades are mostly fine. The friend group looks fine.
So why does it feel like you’re losing the thread of who they’re becoming…
Something has shifted. You can feel it before you can name it.
You’ve Tried Asking. You’ve Tried Backing Off.
You’ve offered the open door, the late-night snack, the casual car ride.
You’ve given space. You’ve leaned in. You’ve watched the wall go up faster every time.
And then, alone at the end of the day, the questions arrive:
Am I missing something? Am I doing this wrong?
Your teen isn’t pulling away from YOU. They’re pulling toward something they don’t have language for yet.
A calm room. A trusted adult. A place where your teen gets to think out loud.

Adolescence Is a Developmental Window, Not a Behavior Problem
What looks like withdrawal is often a teenager doing the hardest internal work of their life.
Identity. Belonging. The pressure of high-performing schools, athletics, and a future already being measured.
The brain is rewiring itself in real time. The emotional vocabulary hasn’t caught up to the experience.
Therapy gives that vocabulary somewhere to land, with someone outside the family system who isn’t grading them.
This is the age when the right relationship at the right moment changes the arc.
What Therapy with Me Actually Looks Like
I draw on child-centered play therapy and interpersonal neurobiology, calibrated to adolescents. The work is unhurried. The pace is your teen’s.
- Your teen builds language for what they’re actually feeling.
- Practical tools for stress, friendships, and decision-making take root.
- Parallel conversations with you. So you’re not guessing.
- Family rhythms find a softer cadence at home.
- Your adolescent leaves with insight they’ll carry into adulthood.
Your teen begins meeting themselves from the inside, and the outside management you’ve been doing gets to ease.
- Language for What They Feel Your teen builds words for what they're actually experiencing.
- Practical Tools That Take Root Real strategies for stress, friendships, and decision-making.
- Parallel Conversations With You So you're not guessing about what your teen needs.
- A Softer Cadence at Home Family rhythms ease, and the outside management you've been doing gets to relax.
- Insight They Carry Forward Your adolescent leaves with self-understanding they'll carry into adulthood.
How the Work Unfolds With Me
Three phases that move from a guarded first session to earned independence at home.
Building Trust & Clarity
I create a steady space where your teen can drop the performance and start saying what's actually true.
Your teen finds a room where they get to be honest.
Insight & Skill Development
Your adolescent develops self-awareness and practical tools for stress, relationships, and decision-making.
Insight becomes something they can actually use day to day.
Confidence & Independence
Your teen carries the skills outward. Family conversations open back up. Independence feels earned, not negotiated.
Home gets quieter in the right ways.
Training Built for the Adolescent Mind
My foundation in child-centered play therapy and interpersonal neurobiology is calibrated to how teenagers actually develop – not adapted down from adult work.
A Presence Teens Trust Quickly
Drawing on years of crisis work with Catholic Charities and my own experience as a mother, I meet adolescents with stillness and respect, never pressure.
Parallel Support So Parents Aren't Guessing
Parents get coaching alongside the teen's work – learning how to read what their adolescent is communicating and respond in ways that strengthen connection.

Will my teen actually talk to me?
Most do, faster than parents expect. I don’t force conversation. I create an environment your teen experiences as safe, respectful, and theirs. Talking becomes something your adolescent chooses, not something extracted from them.
What if my teenager doesn't want to come?
That’s normal at this age, and I handle it directly. The first sessions are designed to lower resistance through respect and pacing. Teens who arrive arms-crossed often leave the first session willing to come back.
How long does teen therapy usually take?
It depends on what’s surfacing. Some adolescents need a focused stretch of work around a specific transition. Others benefit from longer support across the developmental arc. I’ll talk through what fits your teen’s situation honestly.
Do you involve parents in the work?
Yes. Parents get parallel coaching so you understand what’s happening underneath your teen’s behavior and how to respond in ways that build connection. Your teen’s session content stays confidential. The frameworks for supporting them do not.
What if therapy doesn't help my teen?
I’ll tell you. I’m not interested in keeping a teen in a room that isn’t right for them. If a different approach or clinician fits better, I’ll say so directly and help you find it.
Your Teen Doesn't Need Fixing. They Need Somewhere to Be Met.
Take the First Step Today
Imagine a Tuesday a few months from now. Your teenager comes downstairs and lingers in the kitchen for a few extra minutes.
The conversation isn't deep, but it's real. The wall is a little lower. You can feel it.
That's what the work builds toward.
Your teen developing insight and capacity at the moment in life when those skills compound for decades. You, no longer guessing in the dark about what your child needs.
The questions you've been asking at night... they have answers worth finding.
